Ben Sheppard is a New York based actor, singer, bassist, and music arranger/copyist. He most recently appeared in The Walnut Street Theatre's fully re-imagined actor-musician production of CIVIL WAR VOICES as Joesph Harris; continuing his passion of exploring how different forms of music and storytelling can be fused into an even more visceral and memorable experience for the audience.
Originally from Philadelphia, Ben received his bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance (Music Theatre) from NYU Steinhardt and studied voice with Michael Ricciardone. At NYU, Ben participated in a variety of productions, including THE APPLE TREE (Adam), Naomi Iizuka's GOOD KIDS (Connor Weiland, dir. Rachel Dart), GRAND HOTEL (Chauffeur), and premiered the role of Alan in Mark SanGiovanni's ALPHA MALE.
Since graduation, some of Ben's favorite credits include NBC's RISE (Sean/Bass), HANK WILLIAMS: THE LOST HIGHWAY at Gretna Theatre (Hoss), the Walnut Street Theatre's HOLIDAY INN (featured ensemble/onstage musician), and Hamlet Isn't Dead's site-specific, punk-rock adaptation of JULIUS CAESAR (Artemidorus/ onstage musician.)
Ben studied jazz bass performance with Mike Richmond at NYU, and ranked state wide in PA as a classical and jazz bassist. He was also recognized by the National Association for Music Education as a member of the Tri-M Music Honors Society. Ben's bass playing can be heard on the original cast album for NBC's RISE.
Ben maintains an active business as a freelance music arranger/copyist, providing music notation services to a variety of clients. He currently works as the in-house music assistant for composer Stephen Gaboury's project Ballets With A Twist, and is orchestrating and arranging CONTACT HIGH, a new musical by Kyle Hass & Jeremey Swanton.
In his spare time Ben enjoys coffee, coloring, giving dogs he sees on the street inner monologues,
and comedy's rule of 3's.
